How the Procedure Works
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia or deep sedation to ensure complete patient comfort.
- A thin needle is passed through the cheek to reach the foramen ovale.
- A balloon catheter is inserted into the trigeminal ganglion area.
- The balloon is inflated for 60–120 seconds until the characteristic pear shape appears on imaging.
- After achieving adequate compression, the balloon is removed and the patient is taken to recovery.
Most patients go home the same day, and pain relief begins immediately.
